Shlick the Pearl: The 'Libidinal Economics' of Painting After the Network
A discussion with Sarah Cameron and Dr. Paul Pieroni for Glasgow International 2024
Against the disembodied and distributed ‘networked art’ that art historian David Joselit sees as characteristic of some of the most prominent recent painting, this discussion event with artist Sarah Cameron and art historian and curator Dr. Paul Pieroni, will consider Sarah's painting as grounded in the libidinal and as a dialogue with an erotic image of the body. Focused on Sarah's Glasgow International exhibition at Celine, Black Socks, No Panties! / The Stone Bouquet from Cologne, the discussion will expand to consider autoeroticism and the confessional in other contemporary art works, as well as in theory.
